Speaker Bios:
Will Coleman, Mohr Davidow Ventures. Will Coleman brings a background in energy-related technology, development, and policy to the MDV team. He focuses on cleantech investments. In addition to investing, Will supports MDV portfolio companies.
Prior to MDV, Will worked in Washington, DC as an advisor to private equity and project finance clients focusing on the energy sector. Will also worked as a legislative director building state and federal level coalitions to support renewable energy legislation. In 2004, Will was invited to sit on the California Energy Commission's Biofuels Working Groups to formulate strategies for reducing California's dependence on petroleum. Will has also worked for GE Wind in the commercial operations group, Xseed Capital, and on a variety of renewable energy projects in China, West Africa, and India.
Will is on the Venture Fund Advisory Board for the ASE, which operates the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and is on the advisory committee for the California Energy Commission's Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program, an $840m fund to stimulate deployment of low carbon transportation technologies. Will has also served on the advisory committee for the Western Governors' Association.
Will has an MBA and an MS in Energy & Resources from the University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley Will founded the Berkeley Energy & Resources Collaborative (BERC) and the new Center for Energy & Environmental Innovation (CEEI). Will also earned an AB magna cum laude in Social Studies from Harvard University.
Chris Erickson, CEO, Climate Earth. Chris is an entrepreneur and accomplished executive, now turning his attention and passion to the problem of climate change. Chris is known as a creative executive with a track record of pioneering new markets, developing and implementing creative business strategies, and building companies from the ground up. From this rich ground of experience, Chris helps client companies engage from an executive level to develop a climate strategy from the enterprise viewpoint.
Chris holds a BA in Economics from UC Santa Barbara and an MBA from UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He also currently serves as Chairman for ICEsoft Technologies, Inc. a leader in high-performance commercial Open Source software.
Matthew Fisher, Partner, Nixon Peabody. Matthew P. Fisher handles a wide range of corporate transactional matters. He has extensive experience representing clients in private equity, general corporate, and securities law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, fund formation, and venture capital.
Dr. Jon Guice, Managing Director, Research, AltaTerra Research. Jon Guice is AltaTerra's head of research and co-founder. Prior to AltaTerra, Dr. Guice was responsible for creating and executing the business strategy of the clean technology design engineering practice at GreenMountain, building a customer base of innovative startups, publicly-traded firms such as SunPower (Nasdaq:SPWR) and research groups such as PARC, and establishing the firm as the leader in the field. Earlier he had played leadership and strategy roles in an early-stage renewable energy company, a NASA R&D organization and a new product research program at Stanford University and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Jon Guice earned a doctorate as a Regents Fellow in the first-ranked science and technology studies program at the University of California, San Diego and has spoken and published widely on global industry trends, research management and product innovation. His community activities include serving as co-chair of the American Bar Association's Cleantech & Climate Change Committee.
Gary Hermansen, President and Chief Executive Officer, CSRware. Gary has over 20 years of business and entrepreneurial experience including engineering, sales/marketing and executive management experience. Gary's experience spans the markets telecommunications, Internet and semiconductor industries. Most recently Gary served for 5+ years as the CEO and President of Global IP Solutions, the leader in the embedded VoIP technology. Global IP Solutions is a publicly traded company on a European exchange. Gary was also the CEO of Brightmail, an innovator in the SaaS email services market that was acquired by Symantec. Prior to that Gary served as President and GM of Glenayre Consumer Products and held senior positions at Wireless Access, Cypress Semiconductor and Intel. Gary holds an B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
