Biotechnology startups are an incredibly important source of new medical treatments. Over the past decade, drugs initially discovered in biotechnology companies and universities represent about half of the innovative drugs approved, yet venture capital returns over the same decade are negative. Does this mean that the economic model for biotechnology companies is fundamentally broken or that the economic climate is affecting returns in the short-term? Come learn from a panel of venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and industry experts about the current environment in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry including successful fund-raising strategies for early-stage companies, the sectors venture capital firms are investing in, alternative sources of financing and how to survive in the trenches.
