Our 2007, 5th annual Life Science Breakfast Series was an opportunity to discuss vital life science issues with industry leaders and to network with the life science community. This successful series gathered expert panelists to discuss and answer questions on the most pressing topics and trends within Life Sciences. Thank you to 2007's sponsors - for a 5th year - Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Special appreciation to the Astia Life Science Planning Committee. Watch for the 2008 Series!

Each Spring, Astia awards VCs from throughout the US who are leaders in investing in women-led companies in the prior year. These awards, based on data from VentureOne, are presented at our Annual Awards for VCs Investing in Women* to an audience of nearly 400 in Silicon Valley. In 2007, we expanded these awards to include the Award for Leadership in Mentoring for the individual who has shown leadership in mentoring women CEOs in technology-based fields. Bill Campbell, Chairman of Intuit, received the inaugural award, having been selected following a thorough nomination process.

Astia produces a one-day educational event for Angels with the goal of increasing the interest in and skills for angel investing, especially among women. There are very few opportunities to learn about angel investing outside of the angel groups, yet only a small proportion of investors join these groups and only 5-10% of these members are women. We believe that more women have the skills and potential to consider becoming angel investors. For the Colloquium, we produce two simultaneous tracks - one for novice and the other for experienced angel investors. The content is information rich and independent, with much of it sourced from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. As importantly, the Colloquium provides an opportunity for angels to strengthen their relationships with their fellow investors. As part of the day, we invite leading investors as Key Note speakers, including Audrey MacLean, Stanford University and Forbes Midas 500 awardee; Peter Thiel, Founder and President, Clarium Capital Management LLC; Ron Conway, Angel Investors; and Dr. Jay M. ("Marty") Tenenbaum, Chairman and Founder, CommerceNet.
