“If you are true to your instincts as investors, invest in women,” said Astia CEO Sharon Vosmek in an interview with Siliconrepublic.com editor John Kennedy during the recent Astia Venture Showcase in Dublin. The showcase took place as part of the recent Inspirefest 2016 event. Astia is a community of experts committed to propelling women’s full participation as entrepreneurs and leaders in high-growth businesses, fuelling innovation and driving economic growth. Four companies that had women on their leadership teams took the stage in front of invited investors. Normally held in Silicon Valley, New York and London, this is the second time that Astia has held a Venture Showcase in Ireland. Vosmek explained that, since 2013, Astia, which was founded 15 years ago, has invested more than $11m of its own money and more than $100m in syndication with other investors.
She said that women are starting businesses at five-times the rate of men but investors, especially in Silicon Valley, are blind to this. As a result, not only are entrepreneurs missing out, but investors are too.
